Old Style Garage Door Side Springs

Many conventional doors with hinges at each side use one piece springs at each hinge.

If you only replace the broken spring your old spring will be weaker as it will have lost some of its pull. If you have one spring on each side of your door one of your springs breaks the spring on the other side will probably break soon.

Adjust the springs on both sides of the door the same way. Once the spring is free of tension remove from its track hanger. If it was opening too quickly move it to the next lower hole. As a result you may run into balance issues if you only replace one spring.
